Founder of Mark of Light
A Life Shaped by Connection, Grace, and Becoming

For more than twenty six years, I built a career in healthcare and senior living, leading teams, supporting families through some of life's most difficult moments, mentoring leaders, and helping organizations grow.
Over time, I realized the greatest impact I was making was not through business strategy alone. It was through connection, encouragement, and reminding people of who they were when life made them forget.
Those moments revealed something that had been quietly taking shape throughout my life.
My purpose has always been rooted in people.
In listening to their stories. In helping them recognize their worth. In offering hope when the road ahead feels uncertain. And in reminding them that even when life feels dark, their light has not disappeared.
Life has also carried me through seasons I never would have chosen.
There have been moments of success, joy, and deep gratitude. There have also been seasons marked by grief, change, divorce, uncertainty, and the difficult work of rebuilding a life I thought would look very different.
For a while, I believed those experiences had taken something from me.
In time, I realized they were revealing something within me.
They taught me that starting over is not the same as starting from nothing. Every lesson, every heartbreak, every moment of grace, and every person who walked beside me became part of the foundation beneath my feet.
Those seasons did not extinguish my light.
They taught me how to protect it, strengthen it, and trust it again.
And somewhere in the middle of becoming, I began to write.
Starting over is not the same as starting from nothing.
At first, writing was simply a way to process what I was learning.
I began sharing honest reflections about life, faith, grief, growth, relationships, and the courage it takes to begin again. I was not trying to build a brand. I was simply putting words to experiences I knew others might understand.
Then people began reaching out.
They told me they felt seen.
They recognized pieces of their own stories in mine.
They found encouragement in the words I had once written only to help myself make sense of the journey.
What began as simple reflections grew into something much larger. Every story, every conversation, and every lesson kept pointing back to the same truth:
Even in our darkest moments, there is always light waiting to be discovered.
That realization became Mark of Light.
What began as a way to understand my own journey became a way to help others feel less alone.
People often assume Mark of Light is simply a play on my first name.
In part, it is. But the meaning reaches much deeper.
Over the years, I have learned that light is not something we have to wait for someone else to bring into our lives. It already exists within us, even when grief, fear, disappointment, or change make it difficult to see.
I also believe every life leaves a mark.
Every act of kindness leaves a mark. Every encouraging conversation leaves a mark. Every honest story leaves a mark.
Every moment we choose grace, hope, and authenticity has the power to illuminate someone else's path.
That is what Mark of Light represents. It is both personal and purposeful.
My name is Mark. My purpose is light.
Together, they reflect the mission I have embraced for this chapter of my life: helping people discover their inner light so they can confidently share it with the world.
My name is Mark. My purpose is light.
At my core, I am someone who deeply values faith, connection, and the people I am blessed to share life with.
I believe the most meaningful moments are often the simplest ones. A long conversation over coffee. Laughter around a dinner table. A song that reaches you at exactly the right time. A quiet drive that gives you space to think. A story that reminds you that you are not alone.
My faith is the foundation of who I am. It has carried me through seasons of joy, loss, uncertainty, and new beginnings. I do not believe faith means having every answer. I believe it means trusting that grace is still present, even when the path ahead is not yet clear.
I love people and the stories that have shaped them. I am happiest when I am encouraging someone, gathering with friends, exploring a new place, enjoying community theatre, writing something meaningful, or simply being present with the people I care about.
I believe authenticity is more powerful than perfection.
I believe kindness is never wasted.
I believe laughter can be healing.
I believe everyone deserves to feel seen, valued, and loved.
And I believe we are always becoming.
I am still learning, still growing, and still discovering new parts of myself along the way. Mark of Light is not built from a place of having life completely figured out. It is built from a willingness to share the journey honestly and walk beside others as we each discover the light already within us.
I am not sharing from a place of having it all figured out. I am sharing from a willingness to walk the journey honestly.
However you found your way to Mark of Light, I'm grateful you're here.
Maybe you are walking through a season of change. Maybe you are rebuilding, searching for direction, or simply needing a reminder that hope is still present.
Wherever you are on your journey, you do not have to have everything figured out before taking the next step.
My hope is that this space gives you room to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the light already within you.
Through the reflections, conversations, books, speaking, podcast, and Embers community, I hope you find words that meet you where you are and encouragement that helps you keep moving forward.
You are seen. You are valued. Your story matters. And your light still has something beautiful to offer the world.
Welcome to Mark of Light. I'm truly glad our paths have crossed.
You do not have to have everything figured out before taking the next step.
My faith is a foundational part of who I am, and it naturally influences how I live, lead, and serve others. You'll see faith reflected throughout this site, especially in my story and some of my content. However, Mark of Light is intentionally independent and non-denominational — I don't want anyone to feel like they must believe what I believe before they can benefit from being here.
My hope is to create a place where anyone, regardless of their faith background or where they are on their journey, feels welcomed, encouraged, and inspired — whether you're deeply rooted in your faith, exploring it for the first time, or simply looking for hope and purpose.
Reflections, encouragement, and early access to everything new — straight from me.
